I figure that I should write my paper here on my blog. I was already assigned to write 10-15 pages paper on my first day of Introduction to Multimedia and Internet class. I chose my own topic: internet memes. It’s due in two weeks so over two weeks period, I’m going to write scraps about memes. I’m going to commit one hour a day to write something of or about meme so I don’t have to write a paper at last minute.
I’m going to start right now.
Meme is a spread of cultural phenomena whether it is ideas, fashions, practices, songs, gestures, thoughts, habits, theories, or dances. Think of it as a hot trend that many people follow or imitate across the country.
Meme is a complicated subject because how meme is created and spread often leave people scratch their heads. Why is this certain video or fashion really popular even if it is dumb? Like Chuck Norris or Rick Astley? How about a boy who did the cover of Canon Rock on Youtube? A really dumb video like a guy who lip-sync “Numa Numa” song? What makes them really popular?
